Thinking “Me” but Talking “Them”
To any given question in an interview, there are obviously myriads of answers, not to mention ways of stating those answers. Not all of which have the same effect. Slant and spin can make the difference in being passed over or being asked back for another interview.
Keeping this in mind, remember that while the interviewer’s job is to sell the company to you, YOUR job is to sell yourself to the company. You don’t do this by being ME focused. But answering off the top of your head can certainly result in that.
Compare these two answers to the request, Tell me about one of your most significant accomplishments.

No commentsPoor Grammar, Poor Impression
I’ve become increasingly concerned about the ignorance of Americans - not those who have learned English as a second language, but native English speakers - regardless of race, income level, schooling or other determining factors.
The number of people who read seems to be decreasing in direct proportion to the number of kids growing up with portable dvds, and ipods. Television has become the preferred babysitter for children and the most effective way for adults to anesthetize themselves after a day’s work.
Do junior high schools still pound grammar mind numbingly into the heads of students in English class? Are there any mothers who repeat (daily it seemed to me!) the difference between “lay” and “lie” in hopes that one day their daughter will understand it?
